Snowflake Challenge - The Final Two Days

In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom.

I honestly didn't want to touch this day with a ten-foot pole. As much as I'm a part of fandom, I also just... don't want to deal with it a lot. Things seem to be in flux at least for the sort of platform that fandom is clustering on - Tumblr - but no matter what some of us do, I think fundamentally fandom is going to keep progressing in the same lumbering direction it's been going to.

Some people are going to want to charge for things. Others will protest the concept of charging for one's time and effort.
Some people are going to write weird shit that others object to. Some will refuse to ever think about censorship.
Overall, if we keep supporting systems like AO3, we'll end up protecting our fairly happy little bubble of transformative works. If we fuck up and ignore things like that European copyright bullshit, then we'll get screwed.

Meh, I'm really 1/4-assing this answer today. Like, even less than half of an ass.

I just want to keep supporting my fellow creator's events and pieces. That's my bare minimum.

Talk about why you participated in Snowflake &/or what you got out of it.

I participated because... well it looked like a fairly large-ish any-fandom event here on DW, and I really wanted to jump in boots-first into the site. It's been fun seeing how the decorum works here. And to a less technical (and frankly boring for others to hear me ramble about XD) fashion, I had fun nudging around finding people to chat with. I'd definitely do it again next year. It's neatly low-pressure while still giving me some bite-sized introspection and enjoyment.

I remember people bitterly arguing about the future of fandom twenty years ago. The only prediction I feel really confident in is that twenty years from now people will still be arguing about the same things and acting like it it was better in the good old days.
