Two Reveals - FIAB & Femslashex

Rating: T
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pairing/Characters: Zuko/Katara, Ozai
Critical Tags: Arranged Marriage
Summary: An arranged marriage has been set up between the young prince of the Fire Nation and the Southern Water Tribe Chief's daughter. It's all very political and all very practical, especially under the guidance of the apparently reformed Dragon of the West acting as Fire Lord. But Katara doesn't trust that all is as it seems and has to decide if she can trust her husband-to-be to side with her over his own family when there is a plot to overtake the throne by force once the two are wed.
Excerpt:
Pausing in the hall, Zuko ran a hand gingerly along Li’s handiwork on his hair. Not a single wisp was out of place and the golden flame stood proudly at the base of his topknot. He considered adjusting it to make sure it was facing straight, but too many memories of Lo’s bamboo fan across his knuckles stayed his hand.
He shouldn’t be worrying this much about his own appearance. It was ridiculous that anyone else was so overly concerned for the prince’s hair and attire. What did it matter what he looked like today? It was a political affair. The only thing that mattered was that he did not offend the opposing family and learn to live with his bride to be. Simple.
He peered around the doorframe to try and check who had already arrived. The wide dining hall of the Fire Lord was packed with bodies. A sea of burgundy, gold, and red filled one half of the hall. The Fire Lord’s family might not have been large, but the extended court of the nation would have wormed their way into the festivities to try and prove their favor with the reigning Fire Lord. Zuko made a face as he spotted familiar scribes and local - as well as not so local - governors all who certainly couldn’t care less about the prince’s nuptials.
What was of greater interest was the left-hand side of the room. Here, Zuko raked his eyes over unfamiliar regalia and the heavy, embellished attire of his bride’s attendants. The crisp blues, whites, and blacks did not blend into the background of the room like much of the Fire Nation side did. The thick furs especially stood out, especially given the sweltering heat that would come in a few short hours at midday.

Pairing/Characters: Michael Burnham/Sylvia Tilly
Critical Tags: Anniversary, Established Relationship
Summary: The last thing that Tilly wants is to mess up a special night with Michael by doing something stupid. Like totally forgetting that they had plans at all.
Excerpt:
Stamets placed a hand on her shoulder, sending Tilly skyrocketing from surprise. "Sir!" she yelped before pushing her hair back behind her ears. Getting pulled out from her little zone of focus was always distracting.
Her superior officer arched an eyebrow before looking down at her screen. "Still working on the intermix project? I would have thought you would be out the door right at seventeen hundred," he commented.
Tilly frowned, caught between wanting to pick his brain on whether or not she should really include temperatures above fifteen hundred in her parameter list and trying to remember why she would be bolting out right at the end of her shift. She brought the previous models into focus on her screen. "Yeah, I wanted to give it a proper deep dive that it needs," she replied. Her swiping brought up the previous notifications back on screen as well. She hadn't read them at the time, knowing that they would just be her usual reminders that you need to eat to keep from getting hangry, Tills.
Stamets cocked his head. "Sure," he said slowly as Tilly finally absorbed the words on the screen in front of her. "But didn't you still have plans-?"
"Oh shit! I mean, oh no. I mean, yes," Tilly stammered as she frantically moved to close down her work with all the grace of a chicken on rollerskates.

Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pairing/Characters: Katara/Zuko
Critical Tags: Post-Canon, Splitting Up Temporarily
Summary: Parting ways after the war's end, Katara and Zuko make a plan for the future to make the pain easier to bear.
Excerpt:
"Is everything alright? Did something delay you guys?" Zuko asked. His voice was miraculously not groggy from sleeplessness. Katara let her lip quirk in a smile. He did always say that he rose with the sun.
"No, nothing's wrong," Katara replied. Zuko's shoulders dropped as he visibly relaxed. "I just… I know that we sort of did all of this last night, but it didn't seem the same. In front of all those people, it was all so... formal. I asked Aang if we could drop in. I'm sorry for waking you."
Zuko shook his head. "There's nothing to apologize for. You are always welcome here," he said.

Pairing/Characters: Rey & Kylo Ren
Critical Tags: Canon Universe, Canon Compliant
Summary: It's a simple job. Get in. Get out. Get gone before the Order knows she's been there.
Excerpt:
Minutes ticked by on Rey's chrono. It was taking too long. Transport to the comms station had been clocked at sixteen minutes. Rey was approaching eighteen. The nagging sensation of wrongness thrummed with every check of the chrono. Eighteen point three five.
Rey didn't wait for the speeder to decelerate all the way, jumping and rolling from the craft to absorb the shock along her back rather than her side. Her auto-pilot would finish the decel. She had two point six eight minutes to make up.
A few wires cut loose from a security panel on the maintenance entrance granted her access to the comms building. Her chrono buzzed softly to let her know it had just hit twenty minutes. Late, late, late.

Pairing/Characters: Azula & F!Zuko
Critical Tags: Rule 63, Character Study
Summary: After the events in the catacombs under the Earth Kingdom palace, Zuko struggles to rectify the situation with what Azula swears will happen once they return to the Fire Nation.
Excerpt:
“You said this would be worth it?” Zuko asked.
She wanted to believe it. She has been fighting to trust her decision down in the catacombs of the palace. Gazing at the ocean and knowing their bow will soon be pointed directly for the heart of the Fire Nation once more, Zuko gripped the railing ahead of her.
Azula’s face twisted in a way the two never shared before - a smile. “Of course it will be, sister,” she insisted. “Father will be honored by what you’ve done here.”
ZK Week Prep
Saturday, 27 July 2019 07:45 pmI mean, I should be working on the fic from 2 years ago that I have neglected buuut that's less fun than throwing concern to the wind and instead writing some short, nonsense oneshots to reconnect to my fandom youth. ZK week was such a critical part of the start of my fandom life. I remember just going through pages and pages of Deviant Art searches, seeing all the new stuff coming up in July, and going "wow, all these people are so committed and so awesome. I want to be like them!"
And then in like... 2010? 2011? I posted my own very first set of ficlets for Zutara Week. They weren't fantastic but they were unique and they were mine.
I want that again this year. Nothing fantastic. Nothing crazy or impressive like the damn piece I WILL finish from 2 years ago. But finished and mine.
Goal: 2 pieces out of the 7 prompts. I can manage that, right?
WIP Week: Day 1
Sunday, 24 February 2019 08:50 pmAs per tradition, the week opens with the theme of Oldest WIP.
Looking on AO3, my oldest WIP is technically Aftershock. But that's for the original version that I've abandoned, not the revamp. Looking at my next oldest based on original publishing date... it's Safe House. I had my prologue for that sketched out and posted back in May, 2017.
So, I'll write a little bit of that tomorrow when I'm home from work! Back to the super spy assassins that I love so dearly, Buckynat. And I'll take a look at the proper Monday theme then, too.
Today’s Bonus Question:
What was your first fandom?
Speaking of Aftershock, my first fandom was the Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom! I was such a DeviantArt person back then [I've got the horrible journal entries to prove it] and there was a fairly active group of Zutarians who converted me nearly instantly. I hadn't seen the show in ages and the finale was airing in a few weeks. I got caught up on the episodes, got my shipper heart all ready, and then got real disappointed in the finale. Ah well. A decade+ later and I still have some great feelings and love for the characters and fandom. I'm still Zutara 4ever, and I think that maybe this year will be the year that I get Aftershock 2.0 to its final happy ending.
