I have not been keeping up with posting updates, as per usual. Par for the course?

I'm also messing with using the Details HTML tags so hopefully those show up nice and neat on both the reading page and my journal proper.

I've been having an absolute BLAST working on the Karen Page Cinematic Universe fics that [personal profile] athenrys has pspspsp'd me into working on. They're always a good time, even if we're part of the very tiny bubble of rare pair interactions in the larger fandom.

Leverage

Title: The Music Box Job
Rating: T
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker/Quinn
Critical Tags: Alternate First Meeting, Handcuffed Together
Summary: Parker's on a simple job. She doesn't expect IYS's resident bulldog and his lackey to be quite so ready to handle a thief of her caliber.
Excerpt:

Parker sighed. There was a voice in her head that sounded unfortunately similar to Archie’s that reminded her that rushing a job was a bigger waste of time than just waiting for the right opportunity. Rushing led to mistakes. Mistakes led to tipped alarms which led to cops and a definitive lack of loot or payment from her fence. She really didn’t want to have to find a new fence, either. Moz already had a buyer on the line, and he had no patience for losing business, either.

She’d never hear the end of it all if she lost the chance for WWII gold all because the guards here walked too slow. So Parker sat on her upturned bucket and waited, all grumbly and impatient, until the stopwatch was well past twenty minutes.

Pressing an ear to the door and stuffing the stopwatch into her pocket, Parker confirmed she was now blissfully alone. The custodial closet she had selected was two doors down from the basement stairwell. Convenient but not so deep in the facility that she didn’t have an escape route.

The museum’s nighttime lighting was poor. Of course the cameras had IR sensors so no one really needed the actual lamps, but that was utterly rude to their visiting thieves. Parker shook her head. Imagine being a local thief and having to put up with this nonsense.

Netflix MCU

Title: On a Technicality
Rating: T
Fandom: The Punisher (TV)
Pairing/Characters: Karen Page/Billy Russo
Critical Tags: Escape Call, Indirect Kiss
Summary: Ellison tries once more to set Karen up on a date with his nephew. She really should have just told him no at the time, but she doesn’t and now she’s stuck figuring out how to slip out of it all.
Excerpt:

Dinner was set for the upcoming Friday evening with Ellison all but locking Karen out of her office as soon as she had submitted her final piece on the stockyard corruption circuit. There was a brief moment as she stood in the checkout line at the liquor store next to Ellison’s subway stop where she debated the merits of begging off and drinking the fifteen dollar bottle of wine by herself as an equally suitable means of spending her forced time off. Then common sense took over and she decided, no, she did still want to have a job on Monday morning and Ellison’s cooking was going to be far superior to the take out Thai food that was her other meal option.

Lily gave her a warm hug and a very kind comment that the wine looked “very interesting” which was about as much that Karen could hope for when she had selected it by font choice alone. Despite having left the office around the same time as Ellison she had arrived last. Her coat and purse were neatly put away in the hall closet by Lily.

“I’m just going to check on Mitch in the kitchen. Why don’t you open this up and let it decant before dinner?” The hostess pointed Karen to the tidy little cart in the corner of the living room abutting the eat-in kitchen.

Title: All in a Night's Work
Rating: T
Fandom: Daredevil (TV), The Punisher (TV)
Pairing/Characters: Karen Page/Billy Russo, Matt Murdock
Critical Tags: Injuries, Field Medicine
Summary: Someone knocks on Karen Page's door in the middle of the night. It's unfortunate how not-unusual it is when it ends up being one of her friends looking for help after a fight gone wrong.
Excerpt:

"You're not Karen," Matt Murdock said in a matter of fact fashion.

That got Karen out of bed, pausing just to grab the first sweatshirt she laid a hand on on the back of the bedroom door - a baggy USMC one that immediately consumed her hands and waistline - and to relieve Slug of his watch. The dog padded along behind her rather than return to his dog bed, just as curious as his mistress.

"And a very good morning to you, too, Cardinal," Billy snapped. "Please, do come in and bleed all over my freshly washed tile."

Even through the red lenses on his mask Karen was pretty sure she could see Matt's expression twist to glowering. "Cardinal?"

"He likes birds," Karen said as she stepped over to take Matt's shoulder.

Title: I am not a martyr; I'm a problem - Ch 3
Rating: T
Fandom: Daredevil (TV), The Punisher (TV)
Pairing/Characters: Frank Castle/Karen Page, Billy Russo
Critical Tags: Season 03 AU, Bodyguard AU, Alternating POV
Chapter Summary: With Frank heading out to get the lay of the land, Billy has the task of sizing up Karen Page as well.
Excerpt:

At first when he had spotted Frank Castle standing by the elevator doors, Billy had considered throwing himself out the fire escape and praying that his physical therapy would let him make it the block out to where he had a car stashed. It wouldn’t necessarily have worked nor would it really have deterred Frank for terribly long, but the instinct had rattled around in the back of Billy’s skull even after he had let the pair into his condo.

He had managed to ignore the klaxon for a good long while as Karen relayed her story. He’d even made the silent decision that he would help for the day before Frank had pushed for more. Then Billy had frozen, resentment and anxiety racing through him in equal measure as Frank went on about family once again.

Suddenly it wasn’t just about keeping an innocent civilian safe from whatever the hell criminal conspiracy she was trying to take down. It was about making up for what Billy had turned a blind eye to with Maria and the kids.

It was some bullshit, is what it was.

The Good

Absolutely adorable anon comment meme for the holidays *heart eyes activate*

holiday love meme 2021 my thread here

Had a really relaxing long weekend other than all the insomnia and will be looking forward to enjoying my Heart Attack gift soon in December!

Getting decent progress done on X-mas shopping. I think I've gotten almost everything at least planned out for Doc and for the majority of the list.

The Less Good

Work is... I don't want to say it's gotten less crazy because it really hasn't, especially as soon as anyone who isn't me takes PTO. It's work. It's shit but at least I can WFH on Mondays and Fridays and that's somewhat decent. I'm not putting in 110% until I finish year end reviews... in January because they frankly don't fuckin deserve it.

One of my friends is totally AWOL and I hate feeling powerless to do anything about it.

Family is still a nightmare. Gonna need to rip that band-aid off soon, but Christ do I wish they would just man up and do it themselves.

The Fic Updates

The only constant thing in life is death, taxes, and fic updates bc they're a delicious source of dopamine. Here's the nonsense I've been doing lately and forgot to cross-post like a Boss:

Title: Three Body Problem
Rating: T
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker/Quinn/Eliot Spencer
Critical Tags: Character Study, Love Languages
Summary: One, two, three perspectives on how to love.
Written for the 2021 Rare Pairs exchange.
Excerpt:

Quinn liked to think that he didn’t miss too many details - and he had no frame of reference for what made an Eliot Spencer meal distinctive - but he didn’t realize until the third or fourth time that he met Parker that he was getting off-menu service. Parker laughed at that, a knowing smirk on her lips. “If you’re around for Easter, you’ll be in for a treat,” she told him.

And, dammit, she was right. Technically their time off from jobs didn’t line up until the Thursday after the holiday, but that didn’t stop Spencer. Even with the Leverage team getting in on a red-eye the day of and Quinn definitely not having told either Parker or Eliot about his uncle’s renowned grilled pork loin there still ended up being one slid right onto the table alongside the array of sides and tantalizing mains.

“How does he do that?” Quinn asked Parker. Apparently the question he should have been asking though was less so about how - was there really any secret that the retrieval expert wouldn’t puzzle out eventually? - and more on the why.

My muse is locked in one single mood: Shadow and Bone. When will she free me? Hopefully never tbh (j/k, Divergent I'm looking at you to kick back into overdrive as my primary source of disappointingly executed YA).

Somehow I've missed posting four separate fics to my journal, one of which is my multichapter fic that has two separate chapters out! How did I manage that? Yikes!! Sorry, DW.

I have been deeply spoiled by [personal profile] athenrys writing and gifting me this delightful Parker/Quinn/Eliot fic that was supposed to just be P/Q with some undertones. She's blamed me for it turning full OT3 and I will accept this merrily bc boy do I love this rare trio.

Athenrys also has a fantastic assortment of non-trio Parker/Quinn ficlets on AO3 as well which I'll link below, too.

Title: Delicate Constitution
Rating: M
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker/Quinn/Eliot
Critical Tags: Established Relationship
Summary: Quinn has standards when it comes to where he stays and he does like being right.
Excerpt:

“How do you expect me to do my job after sleeping on a mattress that is probably older than you are and a shower with no water pressure?” Quinn asked. He gestured at his body, “This is how I get my job done. You sit behind a screen to do yours, my ass is cashing the checks, and you won’t spring for a place that serves actual breakfast instead of a continental.”

“Eliot’s never complained. And our mark owns the other three hotels in the area.”

“Eliot has a martyr complex you can see from the moon,” he snapped. “No offense.”

“Some taken,” Eliot rumbled. He gave Quinn a once over while he coiled rope for Parker’s gear bag. “Didn’t know you had such a delicate constitution, Quinn.”

And lastly here's my own oneshot that I threw into the void last night. I've been picking at it for I think 2 weeks. It was supposed to be one scene, slam bam thank you ma'am. It's now a 5+1 and nearly 5k because apparently my muse cannot be stopped.

Title: Take, Take, Take
Rating: T
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker/Eliot
Critical Tags: Flirting, Stealing Clothes, 5+1 Things
Summary: There are certain lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Sure, they’re all thieves and criminals but there’s something so unapologetic with how Parker keeps taking Eliot’s clothes that tells him she knows it’s bothering him.
And she just keeps doing it.
Excerpt:

Eliot draws up one of the chairs from the kitchen settee. He regrets it within the first five minutes of the rundown, especially when he can’t stop glancing at the space still available on the couch. He wouldn’t normally have avoided sitting by any of the others; they spent far too much time with one another to get antsy about personal space. But then again typically the rest of the crew wasn’t swanning around in his own damn clothes.

Parker is a thief. That’s her thing, her identity, her whole weird deal wrapped up in a shiny bow because no other term does it justice or covers the sticky bits that come with it. Of course she’s decided to take his shirt. It shouldn’t bother Eliot - it doesn’t - but there’s still something that’s keeping him from crossing the square footage from the uncomfortable chair to the couch in front of her.

He makes it through the rest of the briefing by keeping his eyes solely on the television screen and his mind off of the blonde woman who doesn’t seem to notice - or maybe just doesn’t care - that she’s stolen his thoughts along with the tee.

I'm baaaaaack with more Leverage feels. Specifically, more Parker/Eliot feels. This fic happened in about the span of 1 week and it would NOT stop growing. (Also I need a Leverage icon now asdfggkjl)

Title: Somewhere to Lay Your Head
Rating: T
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker/Eliot Spencer
Critical Tags: Fluff
Summary: After a job, the only thing that Eliot wants to do is crash.
Excerpt:

Eliot could sleep like the dead. Airplanes, the back of the van, the bed of an army truck bouncing over a road that was more potholes than asphalt - he had and would continue to sleep in any of them without any apparent issue. In fact, it was usually necessary to be able to conk out in any of the above situations otherwise Eliot wouldn't be able to do what he needed. Being on guard, ready to fire on all cylinders required being well rested.

Being in the Leverage, Inc. crew didn't change that need. Plenty of their jobs had grueling timetables which required the hitter to be awake for way too many hours after far, far less minutes dedicated for sleep. There was a crash that came after most of them, especially on the ones where various limbs and organs had taken a beating. All part of the job. All the more reason to be able to drop onto the couch and grab, if not forty, then a handful of winks on demand.

He was vaguely aware that the rest of the team struggled to address exactly what their decorum should be during these crashes. When he got to sleep during a job, well, they didn't hold off from their complaints, comments, and unnaturally loud whatever the hell it was Hardison found necessary to do over comms. It was just in the aftermath that they walked on eggshells.

Well, nearly all of the team. There was one particular thief who didn't have any inclination to change how she dealt with dead-to-the-world Eliot versus on-the-job Eliot.

Another Fic - Leverage

I'm in the final few episodes of my Leverage watch which means, naturally, that I'm drowning in plot bunnies. One has escaped containment and made its way into this fic. Which was supposed to be a short little oneshot. Natch, that means its 5k long and only the tip of the iceberg for my feelings on Parker and Eliot.

Title: The Unfinished Job
Rating: T
Fandom: Leverage
Pairing/Characters: Parker & Eliot Spencer
Critical Tags: Canon Extension, s04e01 - The Long Way Down Job
Summary: Once the con on Drexel is completed, there’s still work left to be done. Parker wants to do the right thing by bringing Alan’s body back to his wife.
Excerpt:

She tucked herself onto one of the pop-up folding chairs that had been stuffed into the tent. It was closer to the space heater, too. This wasn't the van. It wasn't secure enough to drop into a doze even when the warmth finally permeated her body in a hazy cocoon.

Parker kept scanning the communications tent with a ready eye. This wasn't right. This wasn't how a con should end. She didn't know what exactly she was looking for, but she wasn't finding it. Sophie and the widow with their deep conversation? Nope. Nate's painfully obvious alcohol withdrawal symptoms? Frustrating but would be easily remedied by a trip to the tent next door. The rap-tap-tap of Hardison cleaning up any loose ends? Should have been comforting since that at least was normal but it didn't quite hit right. And there was nothing else going on. The tumblers still hadn't clicked into place.

She frowned. There was nothing else going on. That didn't quite equal out. Parker twisted on her pop up chair to take a proper head count. One, two, three, four, Parker. But four here was the wrong four.

"Where's Eliot?" Parker blurted out. The conversations around her cut out and there were too many sets of eyes with that twist of eyebrows that Parker recognized as Not One of the Good Ones. "Never mind," she grunted.
